How does Hill define reality TV? Describe his definitions in
the context of a contemporary Reality TV show.
Hill (2005) defines reality TV as a range of popular factual
programming. In the early years reality TV was only on-scene footage of
programmes including law and order or emergency services. However reality TV
has recently changed as years pass by due to development. Factual entertainment
is the actual given term for reality TV and is what Hill defines it too. Reality
TV overall sums up different types of programmes with in the television
industry, scholars and audiences Hall (2005). Although many thinks there is
only one definition to reality TV Hall believes there is more than one definition
to the term reality and depending on how people see and view it.
Nowadays reality TV is becoming more famous for viewers.
Programmes like Keeping up with the Kardashians attracts so many audiences
especially within the middle age group (18+). The idea that reality TV is
factual really draws a lot of attention Hall (2005). I strongly agree with Hall
as he had mentioned that reality TV may have one or more definition to it. With
reality TV shows such as Survivor, Big brother and Keeping up with the
Kardashians they are all three different types of reality shows and I can see
why he believes there is more than one meaning to the term reality TV.
