Question 1 (blog week 1&2)

Do you think comics are a children’s or adult genre/media?
Comics are both for children and adults. Looking at Tintin it is suitable for both (children & adults). As for children they can learn the history of certain events that had occurred in the past. For example in Tintin and the Blue Lotus it talks about the whole opium drug scenario where the Chinese supplied most of the opium drugs to other countries. From these scenes children can learn a bit of history and look up to Tintin’s good work of saving people and also other people saving him too. By the drawing of Tintin you can easily analyse this comics has been around for a long time. Seeing this, adults may have always been interested in comics knowing that in their younger years reading comics might have been popular. This is also why I believe comics can be suitable for adults too.

Although comics may not draw both genders attention it is most likely males will be more interested compared to females. The characteristics of Tintin will impact children especially boy’s lives as they will look up to him as a hero because he protected and saved people. It will motivate them to become a detective or an investigator in the future. From a females point of view Tintin is an interesting comic and I do enjoy reading and watching it and comparing it to modern shows today it is similar to investigation series and can also relate to real life scenarios.

Comics are for both children and adults. Depending on what the story is based on will categorise which age group is suitable for certain comics. Although Tintin has been around for years I strongly believe many would not mind to re-read or watch the whole series of Tintin over and over again. Comics are more interesting to read as it has pictures which could have be one of the many reasons people prefer to read comics than other books.

  1. Ok Seluvaia. Thanks. A few problems with language here - a couple of your points were hard to follow. Interesting that you consider the historic elements to be a motivator for children. I'm not sure I agree, although that may be true for some teenage readers.
I guess your comments on the gender of readers might relate specifically to TinTin. There are many anime comics that are designed primarily for female readers and sell effectively to girls/women.
Have you been to the tutorials? I have explained in detail what we are looking for in the blog responses. There are a few things missing here.
However, you do develop your opinion well.
